SUMMARY OF OP-EDS FROM THE HEBREW
PRESS

Two newspapers comment on the „Boycott
Law”:

Yediot Ahronot notes that, „In
parallel to his successes in the international arena Netanyahu is carrying out a
process of an ever-deepening depreciation of Israel’s social-political
covenant.  The boycott law is only the most recent in a series of steps that
greatly weaken the nation’s democracy.  They are paying a heavy political tax to
the anti-democratic forces that are using patriotism as a spade with which to
uproot the legal system.”

Ma’ariv asks, „Must kindergarten
children wave the Israeli flag and memorize the national anthem? Author A. B.
Yehoshua believes that this is not the path and adds that ‘The whole matter of
boycotts and such is starting to worry.'”

Yisrael Hayom remarks that, „The
tumult created by the battle over cottage cheese prices has spread, it would
seem, to almost every possible field.  In the past weeks the public has caught
up with the economists on the burning issue – where are there wide price
disparities between Israel and the rest of the world?  But there is no need to
look very far.  The sad truth is that it occurs in almost every aspect of our
lives.  Perhaps only the price of salt is very low here.  Maybe.  Not exactly
the kind of tidings that sweeten the public debate.”
