Family of eight accidentally crosses Jordan border

An ultra-Orthodox couple and their six children were picked up by Jordanian authorities Wednesday night after illegally crossing the border from Israel, the Times of Israel reports.

The family was promptly placed under arrest. They were set to be returned to Israel Thursday, after contacts between the Israeli army and Foreign Ministry and the Jordanian authorities.

The reason for their border crossing was unknown, but Channel 10 reported that they were hiking near the border and may have crossed it unknowingly.

Cars vandalised in suspected price tag incidentsRight-wing extremists are suspected by police of being responsible for slashing the tires of five cars in the Gilo neighbourhood of Jerusalem on Thursday morning, the Times of Israel reports.

The vehicles were spray-painted with graffiti reading “price tag”, a calling card of Jewish extremists.

An initial police investigation found that three of the vehicles belonged to Arab residents of the neighbourhood, while the other two belonged to local Jews. The police said the unknown vandals may have mistaken the identity of the car owners.

Last week Justice Minister Tzipi Livni and Internal Security Minister Yitzhak Aharonovich announced that they would present the Cabinet with a proposal to classify price tag attacks as acts of terror.
