SUMMARY OF EDITORIALS FROM THE HEBREW PRESS
Yediot Ahronot discusses the European Union’s strategy of, „building a nation for the sake of peace.” The author opines that Israel needs reliable Palestinian cooperation and, ultimately, a stable democratic and peace-minded Palestinian state as its neighbor.
Ma’ariv lashes out at Labor Party Chairman and Defense Minister Ehud Barak for claiming that, „We will win the next war.” Barak, the editors claim, has no idea what the next war will be like if he plans it himself. The paper defines victory in war as, „obtaining objectives which we defined at the war’s commencement,” and suggests that, whether the goal is exterminating terrorism or defending our citizens, victory is unobtainable.
