PM delays filling in vacated ministerial posts

Prime Minister Ariel Sharon has postponed the distribution of ministerial portfolios vacated by the Labor ministers. Sharon was initially expected to make the appointments at Sunday’s cabinet meeting, but the prime minister delayed the move in keeping with a legal opinion presented by Attorney General Meni Mazuz. Prime Minister Sharon will hold the portfolios himself until December 8, when, under the compromise reached for holding early elections, Sharon’s government will assume caretaking status. At that point, Sharon will be able to appoint interim ministers. Also at the cabinet meeting, Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz told ministers that there are 15 alerts of plans by Palestinian terrorist groups to carry out attacks in Israel.
