Barak: Likud on brink of disintegration, has reached its end

Former Prime Minister Ehud Barak said at a Monday morning press conference that Finance Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s resignation is a milestone in the disintegration of the Likud. Barak said „everyone who tried to repress the division understands that the Likud movement is dividing and has reached the end of its road.” The former prime minister called on Likud members „who sobered up from the illusion” to join Labor. „The disintegration of the Likud is accelerating our return to the Zionist way of Ben Gurion and Rabin, and the same section of the Likud that acknowledges these claims, if it distances itself from the corruption above it, is invited to join the force that will lead the state of Israel,” he said. Barak said that he will work to take Labor out of the government immediately after the disengagement is completed. Then, he announced, Labor will have actually finished its role in the government and will have to leave it and determine a date for elections. Barak attacked the Labor faction’s efforts against the government’s current economic program. „All the struggle that Labor is seemingly conducting in the program is ludicrous, all the business of the superfluous budget is ridiculous.” Judge Sarah Frish’s conclusions about forgeries in the Labor registration drive are expected to be made public on Tuesday, when a new date is also expected to be set for the party leadership primaries.
