SUMMARY OF EDITORIALS FROM THE HEBREW PRESS Both papers comment on various issues related to the Israeli-Egyptian negotiations on modifying the 1979 peace treaty in order to allow Egypt to police the Philadelphi corridor between the Gaza Strip and Egypt: Hatzofeh strongly criticizes Attorney-General Meni Mazuz for – according to media reports – apparently deciding that the proposed modifications are too small to warrant submitting them to the Knesset and asserts that, „Recently, the Attorney-General has been revealed as if he formed his opinions in accordance with the will of the Prime Minister.” Yediot Ahronot, in its second editorial, suggests that the benefits of modifying the treaty in order to permit the stationing of 750 Egyptian policemen along the corridor outweigh the potential risks. __________ Yediot Ahronot says that the way in which Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Finance Minister Benjamin Netanyahu are carrying on their feud, „is an insult to the public,” and suggests that if the latter really opposes the current format of the Disengagement Plan he ought to resign.
