Yediot Ahronot says that, “Israeli democracy will not go far if its elected representatives continue to vote with their legs.” The editors criticize the large number of abstentions and absentee Knesset members in yesterday’s no-confidence votes and believe that it is, “a corruption of democracy.”

Hatzofeh comments that the government has yet to make a final decision on evacuation and adds that Prime Minister Sharon does not have a government majority that supports it.

Yediot Ahronot, in its second editorial, comments on the recent local authority scandal in Hadera and urges further scrutiny of local politicians’ actions.

Yediot Ahronot, in its third editorial, remarks that the High Court of Justice’s decision to allow each local authority to decide whether non-kosher meat will be sold in its jurisdiction represents, “the proper implementation of the idea of mediation.”

Yediot Ahronot, in its fourth editorial, bemoans recent statistics which show that Israeli students know very little about Israeli history.
