„Trump keményen nekiment az iráni terrorista rezsimnek,” mondta az izraeli elnök.
A Youtube-on közzétett videóban Netanjahu kijelentette:
„Ha az Iránnal kötött megállapodás változatlan marad, egy dolog abszolút biztos – pár éven belül, a világ első számú terrorista rezsimje nukleáris fegyver arzenálra tesz szert.”
Ugyanakkor, Trump pénteki bejelentése lehetőséget kínál, hogy kiküszöböljék „ezt a rossz alkut, visszaszorítsák Irán agresszióját és szembesítsék terrorizmus támogató tevékenysége bűntettével”.
„Ezért ragadja meg Izrael ezt a lehetőséget, és ezért kellene ugyanígy tennie minden felelős kormánynak és a világ békéje és biztonsága iránt érdekelt minden személynek,” – tette hozzá Netanjahu.
Trump arra figyelmeztetett, hogy az Egyesült Államok még mindig felmondhatja a történelem „egyik legrosszabb” megállapodását.
„Nem fogunk folytatni egy olyan utat, amelynek előrelátható következménye még több erőszak és terror, valamint Irán nukleáris kitörésének valóságos veszélye.”
Az amerikai vezető bejelentette, hogy új és kemény szankciókkal fogja sújtani az iráni forradalmi gárdát.
Trump arra figyelmeztetett, hogy az Egyesült Államok „véget vethet az alkutnak”, ha nem képesek jobb feltételeket teremteni és nem biztosítják a jelenlegi megállapodás eredményesebb végrehajtását.
Trump azt is elmondta, hogy a kormánya felülvizsgálatát követően „nagyon fontos lépések” meghozatalára készül, hogy megbizonyosodjon arról, hogy „Irán soha – úgy értem soha – ne jusson nukleáris fegyverhez.” Ennek érdekében a kormány igyekezni fog ellensúlyozni a rezsim destabilizáló tevékenységét, és további szankciókat fog bevezetni, hogy megakadályozza annak terrorizmus finanszírozó tevékenységét, köztük „kemény szankciókkal” fogja sújtani az iráni forradalmi gárdát. Az új stratégia arra is törekszik, hogy kezelje az iráni rakéták és fegyverek elszaporodásának megakadályozását.

„When examining the [Iran nuclear] deal, if left unchanged, Iran will have a nuclear arsenal within years,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday, days after U.S. President Donald Trump’s anticipated announcement on Friday of major steps against the international nuclear deal with Iran
Israel was generally upbeat about Trump’s announcement that he would not certify that Iran was adhering to the deal but voiced doubt that the tougher tack by Washington could turn around Tehran.
„The agreement doesn’t prevent it [Iranian nuclear weapons], in fact, it clears a path for an enrichment program that could give Iran quick access to dozens of nuclear weapons and even more than that, and that is why the decision is so important,” Netanyahu told his cabinet Sunday.
„Trump’s decision created an opportunity to repair the nuclear agreement and also to curb Iranian aggression in our region,” Netanyahu continued. „I believe that any responsible government, and anyone who seeks peace and security in the world, would be wise to seize this opportunity and improve the agreement or reverse it.”
He went on to applaud Trump’s decision to impose sanctions on Iran’s elite military force, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, commenting that „it goes without saying that the [U.S.] president’s decision to impose sanctions on the Revolutionary Guards should have our support. Iran uses the Revolutionary Guards as a key tool for spreading terrorism throughout the world and spreading its own aggression in the Middle East.”
On Friday, after Trump presented his new Iran strategy in a speech, Netanyahu welcomed the new policy in a video posted online. „I congratulate President Trump for his courageous decision today. He boldly confronted Iran’s terrorist regime,” Netanyahu said in the English-language video.
Before the speech, U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson briefed Netanyahu by telephone on Trump’s decision, so it came as no surprise.
Netanyahu warned that unless the nuclear deal is amended, „one thing is absolutely certain: In a few years’ time, the world’s foremost terrorist regime will have an arsenal of nuclear weapons and that’s a tremendous danger for our collective future.”
Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman also praised Trump, calling him „brave and right.”
Lieberman said, „The speech stands against the actions of the Iranians, who said they would expand their existing ballistic missile development program, and against the response of the Europeans, who bury their heads in the sand, just as they did in World War II.”
„I’m certain,” he added, „that we will know to deal with the challenges, even without the U.S.”
„The Obama age,” Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan said, „in which the U.S. focused only on the technical sides of the Iranian nuclear deal while ignoring its support for terrorism and its plans for its ballistic missile program, is over. President Trump’s decision to act against the terrorism of the Revolutionary Guards constitutes an important recognition that the nuclear deal will only make Iran more dangerous.”
Intelligence Minister Yisrael Katz gave an interview on Friday to Channel 2 News after Trump’s speech. In answer to a long question that ended with whether he saw a risk of war, he said, „Absolutely, yes. I think that the speech was very significant,” before expanding on the issue.
Katz’s spokesman clarified on Saturday that the minister’s reply was directed at an earlier part of the question and that he had not intended to say that an armed conflict would erupt.
Katz was not reacting „to the question which the anchor added later, whether the president’s speech could lead to war with Iran,” the spokesman said, but rather that the „speech and new strategy could bring about a real change.”
Science, Technology, and Space Minister Ofir Akunis said, „They mocked, ridiculed, dismissed, said that Iran is a spin by the Likud to scare the people – and where are they today, all those who mocked, in Israel and abroad?”
„Likewise, great praise goes to the prime minister, who aroused public opinion [on the issue] in the world a decade ago, even when he was chairman of the opposition,” Akunis said.
