After 20 hours of talks, an agreement was signed today between the Histadrut’s Chairman, Avi Nisenkorn and El Al airlines’ CEO, David Maimon. The agreement was reached after Thursday’s renewed flight cancelations and pilot sanctions. As previously reported by JOL, El Al and its pilots have been in a fued the last few weeks over employee relations.
“Throughout the whole negotiation process, I saw with my own eyes the Israeli passenger who deserves a stable and strong national company that values better employee relations that creates great service for its customers,” said Nisenkorn, who acted as a middleman between the company and its workers in signing the agreement.

This past Thursday it seemed that the conflict between the airline and its pilots would finally be over after weeks of complications in the pilot’s schedules. Although the pilots agreed to stop canceling flights as demanded by the airline, that very Thursday management announced another flight cancellation – flight number 027 to New York. After a short time, Nisenkorn intervened and the flight departed to the Big Apple. Management continued to blame the pilots who were not held accountable.
“It is unfortunate that although the meeting with the Histadrut’s chairman Nisenkorn earlier this week cleared things up, the pilots continue to act barbarically in an attempt to put pressure on the airline’s management in order to change the deal, and a lack of willingness to commit to peace and operate the scheduled flights,” said El Al’s management. “We apologize to our passengers.”
El Al’s Pilot Committee stated, “It is a pity that even through the sanctions and discussions aimed at reaching an agreement, the management continues its campaign of lies against its employees and hurting its passengers. The management is misleading the public; even today there were pilots ready and available to fly any of the canceled flights, flights that are not on their original flight schedules.”
