WORLD UNION OF JEWISH STUDENTS AND EUROPEAN UNION OF JEWISH STUDENTS LAUNCH GLOBAL CAMPAIGN IN RESPONSE TO THE 2015 REFUGEE CRISIS

EUJS

In response to the 2015 Refugee Crisis the European Union of Jewish Students and the World Union of Jewish Students have launched a global campaign to encourage Jewish students to stand up for the thousands of refugees who are fleeing war, massacre and social unrest in the Middle East and Africa.

We have launched a call to action which we are encouraging Jewish student leaders to sign and have generated a list of 20 ways that local Jewish student associations can get involved in supporting those refugees in need that go beyond modern culture of simply posting Facebook statuses.

WUJS Chairperson, Andi Gergely said: “The European Union was founded on the ashes of the Second World War When millions of displaced people were looking for shelter on the continent. As a Jewish community we remember too well those horrific times. This is an opportunity for Europe to prove that it has learned that only free and inclusive societies can flourish and where different ethnicities can coexist peacefully together can be the only way forward.”

EUJS President, Benny Fischer said: “We believe that our responsibility to help is rooted in our core Jewish values. As Jews, as democrats and as Europeans we have to stand up for human rights and for those so desperately in need of our help! Together with our friends at WUJS we want to not only encourage people to take action, but also to showcase where young Jews are already active themselves.”
