Izraeli PM Netanyahu’s Remarks at the Start of the Weekly Cabinet Meeting

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, today (Sunday, 1 June 2014), made the following remarks at the start of the weekly Cabinet meeting:
„I call on all responsible elements in the international community not to run to recognize the Palestinian government of which Hamas is a part and which rests on Hamas. Hamas is a terrorist organization that calls for the destruction of Israel and the international community must not embrace it. This will not strengthen peace; it will strengthen terrorism.
On the upcoming Shavuot holiday (<www.goisrael.com/Tourism_Eng/Tourist%20Information/Jewish%20Themes/Holidays/Pages/Shavuot.aspx>) we see the first fruits of the Land of Israel. And we see here the first fruits of the Land of Israel. There are children here from the Negev and from Tzuba in the Jerusalem hills. I see here wheat, grapes, fruit from the ground and many other things and of course, we merit to see the children. Shavuot also marks the giving of the Torah and the bringing of the first fruits and we always knew that we have a land flowing with milk and cyber.”
President Peres hosted Los Angeles Lakers co-captain Pau Gasol, along with young Jewish and Arab basketball players
President Shimon Peres, this morning (Sunday, 1 June 2014), at the President’s residence, hosted the co-captain of the Los Angeles Lakers, Pau Gasol, along with a delegation of young Jewish and Arab basketball players. Pau Gasol is on his first visit to Israel and the focus of his visit is a basketball workshop for Jewish and Arab children to promote peace and coexistence. President Peres welcomed Gasol to Israel and said, „You are a role model to Israeli children – your work inspires hope. Sport is the key to coexistence and peace. I want to express my personal thanks.”
Pau Gasol thanked President Peres and said that he had come to Israel to meet the people of Israel and is pleased to have the opportunity to make a positive impact on the youth. He added, „Sport is the best way to progress peace and it doesn’t matter which religion you are, with sport everyone speaks the same language.” At the end of the meeting Gasol presented President Peres with a Spanish national team basketball jersey and offered his congratulations to Maccabi Tel Aviv for their EuroLeague victory.
