Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, this evening (Tuesday, 25 March 2014), in Be’er Sheva, attended the closing session of the annual conference of director generals of government ministries.
At the start of his remarks, Prime Minister Netanyahu said, „The strongest engine for developing the economy is the business sector. This is the strongest thing to develop the state, the economy and society. In order to achieve this development we need to overcome an obstacle – over-regulation and conflicting regulations. We have approximately 200 regulators; most of them clash with each other. There is no estimate of the cost of regulation, of how much it costs us. How much does it cost an Israeli citizen when a regulatory decision is made? Therefore, one of the most important things we intend to do is reform regulation in order to reduce it.”
The forum of director generals of government ministries, which began its annual conference yesterday in Be’er Sheva, under the leadership of Prime Minister’s Office Director General Harel Locker, is designed to plan the work of the government in 2015. It was held in Be’er Sheva in continuation of the government’s major investments there.
The director generals toured the cluster of IDF bases that is currently being built in the Negev. They were briefed on the progress in implementing the plan to move the IDF to the south, including the training complex that is due to come into use starting in December of this year.
Afterwards, the director generals toured Yerucham and Be’er Sheva and held marathon discussions on reducing government regulation and on the continued investment in – and economic development of – all sectors of the Negev.
