On February 25, 2014, the governments of Israel and Germany held the fifth meetnig between the two governments in Jerusalem. One of the major topics discussed was the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Israel and Germany, which will be marked in 2015.

In the course of consultations between the two Foreign Ministries, and in cooperation with the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, a competition was held to design a logo for this occasion. Pairs of students from Germany and Israel worked together to prepare designs for the jubilee logo. A total of 18 designs were submitted to the joint German-Israeli committee, which selected the design created by Ariel Wolk and Tisha Metting. The winning artists explained that the design has two meanings: a bow tie, symbolizing diplomatic relations, and the infinity symbol, reflecting the future potential of these relations.
