An Important Day

An Important Day

For nearly a third of the world’s population, today is an extremely important and sacred day. On this day, I am reminded of the historic meeting I and other World Jewish Congress leaders had with Pope Francis this past September…his first private meeting with international Jewish leaders at the Vatican.

At that meeting, Pope Francis said “a Christian cannot be an anti-Semite,” and “to be a good Christian, it is necessary to understand Jewish history and traditions.” I was deeply moved by these extremely powerful and poignant words at a time when we are experiencing a global resurgence of anti-Semitism.

Expressions of anti-Semitism are indeed on the rise, posing a major threat to world Jewry in 2014. This is especially true for Jews in Europe. Threats to Jewish customs and traditions such as shechita and circumcision are becoming all too common. These trends cannot and must not be ignored!

Therefore, I’m urging you to please take advantage of my personal offer to match your year-end, tax-deductible gift to the World Jewish Congress, American Section, which supports the vital work of the WJC, dollar-for-dollar, up to $250,000, through December 31, 2013.

Breuer, as a member of the World Jewish Congress, American Section, you understand what is at stake. And you understand that “All Jews Are Responsible for One Another.” Together, we must be vigilant and combat the resurgence of anti-Semitic violence and threats to Jewish customs and traditions taking place in Europe and around the world.

Please make your tax-deductible year-end gift right now, when it will go twice as far to protect our global Jewish family.

As always, thank you for your deep personal commitment to the safety and security of world Jewry.

Sincerely,

Ronald S. Lauder
President,
World Jewish Congress
