TAKE ACTION NOW. PROTECT JEWISH RIGHTS IN POLAND

World Jewish Congress

Diplomatic Alert Urgent Action

ACT NOW!Poland has recently become the first country in Europe since the end of World War II to ban shechita- the kosher slaughter of meat in accordance with Jewish law.

Poland, with its rich Jewish heritage and history, was believed to be among the most fertile environments for a Jewish revival after the fall of communism. This decision by Poland’s parliament, the Sejm, now raises the question: Can the Jewish renaissance in Poland, indeed in the heart of Europe, continue if essential elements of Jewish life are declared illegal?

This ban is unacceptable and, if left to stand, has enormous implications for Jewish communities all across Europe. That’s why I urge you to lend your voice and support to the World Jewish Congress and sign our International Letter of Outrage now. Stand with us today and demand that the civil and religious rights of the Jewish people be protected.

The vote by the Sejm is an assault on the freedom of religion and a slap in the face for Poland’s Jewish community, which has been part of the country’s social landscape for more than a thousand years.

Not every Jew keeps kosher; some are vegetarians. But it is incumbent upon every Jew to defend the right to live according to Jewish law.

Please take action now. Show your solidarity with Poland’s Jews and sign the World Jewish Congress’ International Letter of Outrage.

Tell Poland, Europe, and the world that sacred Jewish religious customs and traditions are indispensable and non-negotiable. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Ronald S. Lauder
