21K for Balu
A hungarian political correspondent, Tamás Lajos Szalay will run at the Brussels Halfmarathon for a six-year-old hungarian boy (named: Balu) with multiple disabilities.
The child had a drowning accident, when he was two years old; he was found in a clinical death state. Nobody trusted that he can survive, but he was very strong, and he came back in life. He suffered diffuse brain injury, as a result of the accident. He lost his eyesight, his hearing, he was absolutely immobile, and he was in coma. He and his mother were on many therapies in the past four years: including stem cell transplantation, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, rTMS therapy, a lot of kind of gymnastics. Nowadays, they are making an american therapy, the so called Doman-method in six hours with him every day. This is a complex rehabilitation program for children with brain injury. Thanks to the therapies and to the hard work Balu stated to growing with little steps, his hearing recurred, he sees the light, he can use his hands and crawl, he feels quite everything: the pain and even the kisses he get. They know that the road is very long until the complete healing.
Every therapy is so expensive, and is very heavy to insure the necessary capital. „Our financial sources give out, and because of that we started a Foundation for him, which call ‘Balázs Gyógyulásáért Alapítvány’. Through this Foundation we try to get the necessary money for the future therapies and other children like Balu. Until he fights for his healing we will never give up too!” – says his mother.
The hungarian journalist wants to dedicate this 21K-run to Balu and to similar fate having children. They are collecting also self-shot pictures of hungarian MP’s and also members of the EP with the subtitle: „21K Baluért” which means: „21K for Balu”. After the race they will make a huge montage from these pictures and give it to Balu’s family, demonstrating the support of the people.
