  • Sharansky proposes egalitarian prayer section at Western Wall

Jewish Agency head and soviet-era refusenik, Natan Sharansky adding a section at the Western Wall in Jerusalem to enable Jewish Progressive groups to pray there according to their traditions, the Jerusalem Post reports.

“There must be a section for egalitarian prayer,” at the site, Sharansky told the paper on Tuesday from New York.

Currently, religious ceremonies “’not according to local custom” or which “may hurt the feelings of the worshippers” are prohibited at holy sites in Israel, including the Western Wall.

These rules are generally interpreted by the police as meaning anything offensive to Orthodox practice.

  • Racist murderer sentenced to life imprisonment

A court in Jerusalem on Tuesday sentenced a Jewish terrorist to life imprisonment for the murders of two Palestinians, Yediot Aharonot reports.

Jack Teitel was convicted of two counts of first degree murder, in addition to a long list of other violent offences.

The judges rejected the defense’s request for a reduced sentence on the basis of Teitel’s mental state and also ruled he should pay compensation to the families of the victims.

Teitel, a US immigrant, confessed to the killings, which he committed while visiting as a tourist. He was convicted in January this year of killing a Palestinian taxi driver in Jerusalem and a shepherd near the West Bank city of Hebron.

  • Minister tours Tel Aviv migrant worker areas

Interior Minister Gidon Sa’ar toured areas of Tel Aviv on Tuesday, which has recently seen tense exchanges between African migrants and local residents, Yediot Aharonot reported.

At the end of the tour the minister said: „The government’s policy is to return the infiltrators to where they came from or to other countries.

„This should be done according to the law and the values of the State. These are human beings,” Sa’ar said
