Peres warns diplomatic stalemate could return terror
Israeli president Shimon Peres has warned that failure to progress on a peace initiative could lead to a resumption of terror attacks in Israel.
Peres suggested in a series of interviews with Yediot Aharonot that Israel’s leadership should actively pursue diplomatic efforts for a renewal of the peace process otherwise “the Palestinians will go back to terror”.
Israeli elections underway – New Zealand first
Israeli envoys oversees began voting on Wednesday in the country’s general election, Yediot Aharonot reports. Polling takes place in 96 Israeli missions around the world. First to open ballot boxes was Israel’s embassy in New Zealand.
Oversees voting will conclude in Los Angeles on Friday morning. The general election takes place on January 22.
A white Jerusalem as snow covers capital
Snow and freezing temperatures hit Jerusalem and the north of Israel as Israel’s worst weather in 20 years closed schools around the country, the Times of Israel reported.
Elevated parts of the country in the capital, the Golan Heights and the Samarian hills saw snow on Wednesday while problems with heavy rain and flooding hit other areas.
The Jerusalem municipality was set to announce Thursday morning that school would be cancelled for the day. |
