  • Netanyahu warns rushed deal could bolster Hamas

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu warned that hasty moves towards a peace treaty could benefit Hamas at the expense of the Palestinian Authority, the Jerusalem Post reports.

Netanyahu referred to government changes in Syria and Egypt as examples of what may happen also in the West Bank.

“Therefore, contrary to the voices I hear in recent days encouraging me to run ahead, make concessions, withdraw, I think the diplomatic process needs to be managed in a responsible, not hysterical, manner, and with wisdom, not hastily. Otherwise a third Iranian terror base [in addition to Gaza and southern Lebanon] will be established in the heart of the country,” he said.

  • Israel bans cosmetics tested on animals

New regulations took effect on January 1, 2013 in Israel banning the import, marketing and sale of cosmetics, toiletries and detergents whose manufacture involves the testing of animals, reports Yediot Aharonot.

The law, which follows one of 2007 banning all animal testing in the Israeli cosmetics industry, follows European Union guidelines.

  • Knesset places limits on money transfers to Gaza

The Knesset has moved to reduce the smuggling of cash to the Gaza Strip suspected of being used to subsidize acts of terror, reports Yediot Aharonot.

The maximum amount of funds allowed into Gaza without declaring it first is reduced from 100,000 NIS to 12,000 NIS.

The decision follows a request for greater controls by Israel’s security head.
