Yediot Aharonot notes that „In Gaza and in Hamas as well, no one sheds a tear when Israel eliminates Global Jihad activists, and so it was on Sunday evening when two activists were eliminated in Rafiah. But this time eleven bystanders were wounded along with the terrorists, two of them fatally, and among them women and children. The wounded, not the terrorists, were the pretext for the rocket attack yesterday.” The author reminds us that „It is Islamic Jihad which pressures for a response. The organization’s leadership, in
recent weeks, has been pushing Hamas to put an end to the unwritten ceasefire with Israel, and to renew the ‘rocket attack for every elimination’ formula.”

Ma’ariv asserts that „Israel must apply all means possible before taking on the next campaign with Hamas, which perhaps there is no alternative to.” The author suggests that „The best way to avoid the next confrontation is dialogue with Hamas, with one stipulation: that Hamas meets the Quartet’s conditions.”

Yisrael Hayom reminds that „[French] President François Hollande defeated President Sarkozy in May elections because of the moderation which he transmitted and also because he chose to present a more humane France. Who would have believed that less than a half a year after his election he would have to manage the wars which Sarkozy talked of. Islamic terror is alive and well in Europe. To ignore it will not make it go away.”

Haaretz reflects on state of affairs at the top echelon of Israel’s government and notes that as “There is no policy, there is no agreement, there is no budget,” there is therefore “no reason to put effort into artificial respiration for the 18th Knesset.” The editor believes that an alternative to Netanyahu’s leadership is required, and asserts that “This is the time to choose between what Netanyahu represents and what is represented by forces more responsible than he is to lead Israel.”

The Jerusalem Post emphasizes its impartiality regarding the paper’s coverage of the forthcoming US elections, and states: “It is our fervent belief that the White House and Congress will continue to be strongly supportive of the Jewish state no matter who wins the election, and we reject any attempts by interested parties to use deception and subterfuge to achieve their goals.”
