SUMMARY OF OP-EDS FROM THE HEBREW PRESS

Ma’ariv commends the Justice Ministry for appointing a team to fight attempts to delegitimize Israel and says, „It seems that somebody in Jerusalem has finally understood that this is a genuine war.” The author, who was acquitted by the French Supreme Court on a charge of libeling the father of Muhammad Al-Dura<www.timesofisrael.com/netanyahu-dr-yehuda-david-an-israeli-hero/feed>, believes that the struggle against the delegitimization of Israel, „requires sophistication and outside-the-box thinking,” and adds, „The forum that has been established is a sign of life.”

Two papers discuss the controversy over Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s decision to adjourn a meeting of the Security Cabinet yesterday morning<www.pmo.gov.il/English/MediaCenter/Spokesman/Pages/spokepizur050912.aspx> in protest against the leaking of information from a similar meeting the night before:

Yediot Ahronot says that Prime Minister is right to be angry over leaks from the Security Cabinet, but accuses his confidants of having leaked plenty of information over the years and claims that, „The culture of running at the mouth and of public relations was born in this Prime Minister’s office.” The author notes that the leaked information

about alleged disagreements among senior intelligence officials regarding Iran was allowed for publication by the IDF Censor and speculates that the Prime Minister may be trying to move the discussion to a smaller ministerial forum because, „He does not have an assured majority for action against Iran,” in the full Security Cabinet.

Yisrael Hayom reminds its readers that, „The war against leaks is not new,” and dismisses the suggestion that members of the Security Cabinet undergo polygraph tests. The author asserts, „The anger will pass and all that will be left for the Prime Minister to do is compartmentalize his Cabinet vis-a-vis sensitive information, and each minister will have to decide if he is prepared to be a second rate minister.” The paper notes a suggestion by Minister Michael Eitan, who is not a member of the Security Cabinet, that the full Cabinet delegate authority to some smaller ministerial forum and authorize it to decide on a possible strike against Iran but adds, „This is not at all simple. Most ministers will be asked to assume responsibility for decisions they had no part in making.”
