IN THE YEAR 2011, 3.4 MILLION VISITORS ARRIVED IN ISRAEL

DESPITE THE GLOBAL ECONOMIC CRISIS AND THE GEO POLITICAL SITUATION IN THE AREA, THIS IS THE HIGHEST NUMBER OF VISITORS EVER WITH THE EXCEPTION OF 2010

3.4 million visitors arrived in Israel in the year 2011

2% less than 2010. 2.8 million were tourists who stayed for at least one night, 1% higher than 2010. 542,000 visitors arrived for a one day visit in Israel, most of them from Russia, Poland and the Ukraine. Out of the one day visitors, 237,000 arrived on cruise ships (an increase of 41%).

Based on the information provided by the Central Bureau of Statistics, which was published today, in the month of December 2011, 263,000 visitors visited Israel, a decrease of 2% compared to December 2010, out of those visitors, 215,000 visitors were tourist entries, a decrease of 1% compared to December 2010 and 48,500 one day visitors

7% less then December 2010.

Minister of Tourism, Stas Misezhnikov, noted that „2012 opened with vigorous and intensive activities by the Ministry of Tourism to reach the full potential of tourism to Israel, starting with accommodation to suit all budgets and marketing aimed at maintaining and strengthening Israel’s image as an attractive tourism destination. This will allow for the opportunity to reach our goal for the year 2012

4 million visitors, resulting in an increase in economic revenue and employment in the tourism industry.”

The Minister added that, „despite the economic crisis and the geo political situation in the year 2011, the economic revenue reached a record high which stood at 35 billion NIS

an increase in 2% in comparison to the previous year as well as 100,000 employees employed directly within the industry 7.5% of all employees in Israel. This data, is an indication of the confidence tourist have in Israel and proof that the tourism industry is a significant national resource and one of the leading forces for economic growth.
