FOREIGN MINISTER TO DISCUSS RESUMPTION OF RELATIONS WITH MOROCCO. ______________________________ SUMMARY OF EDITORIALS FROM THE HEBREW PRESS Hatzofeh notes that, “Prime Minister Ariel Sharon promised yesterday that Israel would not allow Ashkelon to become a target for Kassam rockets,” and declares, “Now is the time for residents of Ashkelon to start worrying.” The editors doubt that Prime Minister Sharon will live up to this promise and assert, “In other words, the Prime Minister that holds the Israeli all-time record for people murdered in terrorist attacks, would do well to actually do something instead of offering a sea of verbiage and inflammatory declarations.” Hatzofeh, in its second editorial, points out that while the US administration has conditioned its support for a Palestinian state on the continuation of Prime Minister Abu Mazen’s government, Prime Minister Sharon still unreservedly supports a Palestinian state. Yediot Ahronot hopes that the Or Commission report prompts Israelis to consider the following questions: “Is there really a way in which Israeli Arabs can become genuine citizens of the Jewish state? And if there isn’t, are the two sides destined for a violent, disastrous collision? Hasn’t the time arrived for a substantive dialogue on Israeli identity and to deal with basic questions that we have hitherto shied away from on the grounds that the time was not yet ripe?” The editors believe that the foregoing, “is much more important and vital than how the commission will judge those who were involved in that bloody week in which 13 Israeli citizens were killed, at least some by police fire.” BPI.
