Ron Huldai, Tel Aviv polgármestere a kedd estére összehívott sajtótájékoztatón jelentette be, hogy új pártja – Az Izraeliek [הישראלים], élén indul a jövő márciusi választásokon.
A veterán polgármester és volt vadászpilóta azzal indokolta döntését, hogy gyermekeimért, és főleg az unokáimért teszem és mivel szerinte a probléma az, hogy már megszoktuk Benjamin Netanjahu miniszterelnök korrupcióját és megosztó vezetési stílusát, akár megállhatunk a kétségbeesésnél.
A miniszterelnök legújabb kihívójaként üzent az ellenzéki blokknak és a Likudból frissen kivált Gideon Szá’ár és új pártjának, mondván, hogy a miniszterelnök korrupciós ügyeivel érvelni szép, de nem elég, tenni is kell valamit ellene.
A baloldali értékeken alapuló Az Izraeliek párt Huldai reményei szerint a demokrácia és az igazságszolgáltatási rendszer védelme mellett áll ki, ezenkívül szociális reformokat hoznának létre, gondoskodik a kisvállalkozásokról, a nők és a kisebbségek jogairól, ugyanakkor ellenzi a vallási kényszert, az arab közösségben tomboló erőszakot.
Huldai sajtótájékoztatója előtt Avi Niszenkorn igazságügy miniszter közölte, hogy kilép a Beni Gantz vezette Kék – Fehér pártból és a következő választáson Az Izraeliek listáján fog indulni.
Niszenkorn átállása előtt, Aszaf Zamir és Miki Haimovich is bejelentette távozását a Kék – Fehér frakcióból.
Beni Gantz Huldai sajtótájékoztatója előtt tartott beszéde során megerősítette, hogy pártja élén indulni fog a választásokon és figyelembe véve mindazokat, akik úgy döntöttek más utat választanak a jövőben, azt mondta: az ajtó nyitva áll.
Gantz bejelentette, hogy pártja az átmeneti időszakban megőrzi az ügyvivő kormányban pozícióit, a választások után csatlakozni fog a miniszterelnök leváltását kezdeményező szövetséghez, ami valószínűleg azt jelenti, hogy más ellenzéki párttal közös listán fog indulni.

Tel Aviv Mayor Ron Huldai announced on Tuesday he will run in the upcoming elections as the leader of a new party called „The Israelis.”
Speaking at a press conference, Hudai said, „we have become accustomed to divisiveness and lying. We have become accustomed to an insane government, unable to govern anything. The worst thing you can do is get used to it, lay down your head and sink into despair.” X
