Today’s issues: Freedom to adopt, remove metal detectors first, seizing the opportunity at the Temple Mount, and flouting the status quo.

The Jerusalem Post slams the official government position deeming LGBT people unsuitable to adopt children, and asserted: “The LGBT community was rightly incensed at the challenge to the equality of rights in our modern society.”

Haaretz warns of the danger posed by the events this week on the Temple Mount after last Friday’s terrorist attack and the subsequent police insistence that Muslim worshipers pass through metal detectors stationed at the entrances to the Temple Mount, which has led to outrage in the Muslim community, and declares: “One can assume that the police and the government understand their mistake, but they are afraid to backtrack for reasons of honor and image. One must remember that this is a volatile situation that could end up costing lives on both sides. That’s why the government should give in, remove the metal detectors and then have discussions with officials responsible for security arrangements on the Temple Mount.”

Yediot Aharonot claims that last Friday’s terror attack should serve as an opportunity to change the chaos at the site and put things in order, and states: “In theory, the right thing to do would have been to seize opportunities. An attack committed by Muslims at the Temple Mount as an opportunity to change the governmental chaos at the site. To put things in order. To stop treating that important place as if we were a third-world country.”

Israel Hayom states: “If there is one thing we can learn from the pathetic condemnation voiced by Arab lawmakers and members of the Higher Arab Monitoring Committee over Friday’s terrorist attack near Lions’ Gate in Jerusalem, it is that despite their stated objections to Israeli Arabs’ picking up arms, they do, in fact, justify Palestinian terrorism against Israel,” and asserts: “The fact the Palestinians prevent prayer in Al-Aqsa mosque over metal detectors, whose sole purpose is to boost the site’s security, shows they are indifferent to the holy site’s fate.”
