Jonathan Pollard’s Confession: This week marks the 27th anniversary of Jonathan Pollard’s guilty plea for acts of espionage against the United States. There was plenty of political turmoil in the initial months after the revelation that Pollard spied for Israel.

Protesting Alice Walker:  Writer Alice Walker this week urged singer Alicia Keys to support a boycott of Israel and cancel a planned concert in Tel Aviv. An ardent critic of Israel, Walker has refused to let her novel be translated into Hebrew and in 2011 joined a flotilla trying to break through Israel’s naval blockade of the Gaza Strip.


Modern Blood-Libels: Henry Morgentaler, an Auschwitz survivor and longtime champion of abortion rights, died this week. In 1990, Morgentaler found himself accused of killing Christian babies through abortion. A 57 percent rise in anti-Semitic incidents in Canada that year was attributed in part to anti-abortion activists who targeted the doctor’s activities.
