At the weekly Cabinet meeting today (Sunday, 2 June 2013):
1. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made the following remarks:
„The Middle East is going through an especially sensitive period of shocks and upheavals in many sectors. While we have no interest in being party to the conflicts around us, we are acting and we are committed to prevent dangers to Israel’s security, and we have a clear policy of responding to attempted attacks against our territory. Also, I would like to strongly condemn recent phenomena of racism against Israeli Arabs and hooliganism against Palestinians, which were without
any provocation or justification whatsoever. We strongly reject these phenomena and will act with all legal means at our disposal to stop
them.”
3. The Cabinet approved the decision of the Second Authority for Television and Radio Council to – pursuant to Article 25 of the 1990 Second Authority for Television and Radio Law – appoint Shai Baabed as Director General of the Second Authority for Television and Radio.
4. The Cabinet decided to extend the tenure of National Economic Council Chairman Prof. Eugene Kandel for an additional four-year term, effective 5 July 2013.
5. Public Security Minister Yitzhak Aharonovitch briefed ministers on theactions that have been taken in the past month in the struggle against ‘kiosk drugs’.
