Following last month’s escalation in southern Israel, April showed a significant decrease in the number of attacks: 70 attacks as opposed to 229 in March 2012. The decrease is most prominent in the Gaza Strip: 9 attacks as opposed to 157 in March and 31 in February.

Further decrease took place in other areas:

 

The Judea and Samaria – 36 attacks as opposed to 43 in March;

 

Jerusalem – 24 attacks as opposed to 29 in March.

 

Despite that, on the eve of the Jewish holiday – Passover, two rockets were launched from Sinai to Eilat (April 5).

 

Three Israeli citizens were injured this month in stabbing attacks. Two attacks took place in Jerusalem (April 2 and 19); and another attack occurred in Kfar Saba (April 24).

Following is a regional distribution of attacks:

 

9 attacks in the Gaza Strip (157 in March); 36 attacks in the Judea and Samaria (43 in March); 24 attacks in Jerusalem (29 in March); 1 attack within the „Green Line”(Kfar Saba).

 

Jerusalem and the Judea and Samaria area: Most attacks executed in April (54 out of 60) were in the form of firebombs (March: 70 out of 72).

Following is a distribution of attacks in April 2012 according to regions:

 

The Gaza Strip – 9 attacks: 8 rocket launchings; 1 small arm shooting.

 

Judea, Samaria and Jerusalem – 60 attacks: 2 explosive devices; 2 small arm shootings; 2 stabbing (in Jerusalem); 54 firebombs (22 in Jerusalem).

 

Green Line – 1 stabbing attack (in Kfar Saba).

Throughout April 2012, 10 rockets were launched towards Israel, 2 of them from Sinai to Eilat (in 9 attacks), compared to 173 rockets and 19 mortar shells in March (in 156 attacks).
