THE TOURISM MINISTRY OPENS THE 2010/11 WINTER SEASON WITH A NIS 40 MILLION BUDGET FOR MARKETING ISRAEL OVERSEAS AS AN ATTRACTIVE TOURISM DESTINATION DURING OCTOBER-JANUARY
The Tourism Ministry opens the 2010/11 winter season for incoming tourism with a comprehensive NIS 40 million campaign to the end of 2010. An additional budget will be allocated to the campaign in early 2011 in accordance with the ministry’s goal of bringing 3.7 million tourists to Israel during the year.
Within the framework of the winter 2010/11 marketing campaign, the ministry will launch advertising campaigns over several months in the target countries for incoming tourism including USA, Russia, Germany, France and the Scandinavian countries. This campaign will run alongside marketing activities in new countries that are showing an interest in Israel as a tourism destination, including South Korea, Poland and Ukraine.
The campaign will highlight the branding of Israel as the Holy Land with Jerusalem at its center, and with a significant, targeted approach to the evangelical communities in the States and other countries. The Tourism Ministry is working hard to increase the number of tourists from the evangelical community, given its large and as-yet unrealized potential according to ministry estimates.
The winter campaign will also include intensive activities to increase the number of tourism wholesalers marketing Israel, generate additional seat capacity and frequency on flights to Israel, as well as encouraging new air routes into the country.
Tourism Minister Stas Misezhnikov: “The success of the marketing activities and the increase in incoming tourism during the winter season is very important in leveraging the tourism industry in 2011. We are working to bring another million tourists to Israel by 2012 and 5 million tourists by 2015. As the Israeli winter is an attrfor tourists from many countries around the world, we are working to ensure that the winter season will become a significant part of Israel’s tourism product.”
According to the Tourism Ministry’s figures, 2.2 million tourists have visited Israel in the Jan-August period. 480,000 tourists came from the USA and Canada (17% more than the same period last year); 330,000 tourists arrived from Russia (55% increase); 200,000 from France (7%); 113,000 from Germany (29%); 120,000 from England (5%); 106,000 from Italy (43%); 86,000 from Poland (40%); 52,000 from the Ukraine (33%) and 30,000 from Korea (111%)
