President Shimon Peres to Celebrate his 86th Birthday

 

President Shimon Peres will receive the Israeli Union of Performing Artists Yakir (Patron) Award at a special concert during which ten Israeli artists will perform songs which have been written by the President.

 

On Sunday, August 16th, Israeli artists will celebrate President Peres’ birthday in a special concert during which they will present the President with the Israeli Union of Performing Artists Yakir Award and perform songs which have been written by the President himself.

 

President Shimon Peres is known as a statesman and a politician but few know that he has also been writing songs since his childhood.  On Sunday hundreds of citizens, including leading Israeli artists, will celebrate his 86th birthday in a musical event at the Duhl Center for the Performing Arts in Tel Aviv’s Hatikvah neighborhood.

 

The producer of the event, Israel’s former cultural attaché in Los Angeles, Kobi Oshrat, collected tens of songs written by President Peres during different events in his life:  The establishment of the State of Israel, his life as a member of Kibbutz Alumot on the Kinneret, the peace agreements, Government meetings, etc. and gave them to top Israeli producers and artists who set the songs to music.  Among the artists are:  Shlomo Gronich, Korin Elal, Shiri Maimon, Ninette Taieb, Lial Collette, Matti Caspi, Miri Masika and Arik Sinai.
