SUMMARY OF EDITORIALS FROM THE HEBREW PRESS
Yediot Ahronot believe that the Knesset vote for President, the President of all Israeli citizens, should be transparent. The editors say that this would be the first step in rehabilitating the institution of the presidency.
Yediot Ahronot, in its second editorial, praises the United Nations for its decision denouncing denial of the Halocaust and adds that the UN has changed for the better since 1975, when it equated – with anti-Semitic overtones – Zionism with racism.
Hatzofeh points to the irony of Prime Minister Ehud Olmert’s remarks that President Moshe Katsav can no longer continue when the Prime Minister himself is facing serious allegations. The editors ask, „What will happen when Olmert is in the President’s shoes? Will he go home?”
