Israel welcomes the Czech decision to establish an official diplomatic office in Jerusalem.

FM Ashkenazi: The Czech Republic’s decision to open a diplomatic office in Jerusalem is a sign of the steadfast friendship and strategic partnership between the two countries.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Gabi Ashkenazi spoke today (Wednesday, 2 December 2020) with his counterpart, Czech Republic Minister of Foreign Affairs Tomáš Petříček and thanked him for his government’s decision to establish an official diplomatic office in Jerusalem.

 

 

 

During the conversation, FM Ashkenazi expressed his appreciation for the true friendship and strong support of the Czech government, the shared commitment of both peoples to strengthen the partnership by means of  security, economic, commercial, tourism and technological cooperation as well as the collaboration in the global struggle against the corona pandemic.

 

 

 

FM Ashkenazi: “This is an important step that is indicative of the friendship between the two peoples and the recognition of Jerusalem as the eternal capital of the State of Israel and the Jewish people.

 

 

 

“It is my sincere hope that the Czech diplomatic office will be inaugurated in Jerusalem in the near future and we will see the countries’ flags hoisted over the diplomatic missions in the capitals of both countries, as a symbol of the brave friendship and strategic partnership between the countries.”

 

 

 

The Czech Government’s decision joins a wave of similar decisions to establish embassies in Jerusalem taken by various countries over the past three months (Kosovo, Serbia, Dominican Republic and Malawi).

 

 

 

Earlier today, Martin Stropnický, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Israel dispatched a missive with an official announcement of the opening of a Czech diplomatic office in Jerusalem to Alon Bar, Head of the MFA’s Political-Strategic Array. According to Ambassador Stropnický, this is a promise made by Czech President about two years ago.

 

 

 

FM Ashkenazi congratulated the Israeli Ambassador to Prague, Daniel Meron, on the important diplomatic achievement that is the result of the diplomatic effort of the MFA and embassies around the world to promote recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
