Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the normalization of relations with Turkey will “dramatically influence the economy in Israel” and that the agreement is an “important step towards the normalization of relations between the two countries.” Netanyahu stated these things at the end of a meeting with US Secretary of State John Kerry.

“I updated Kerry on our agreement with Turkey that I will display this afternoon,” Netanyahu stated. “There are also implications for the Israeli economy and I mean positive implications.” Netanyahu also related to the political process with the Palestinians: “We discussed the regional implications of stabilizing the Middle East and a number of issues between us. It was a broad discussion that I believe brings us in the direction of our shared goals and the discussion was of enormous value.”

Also this morning a senior level Turkish official related to the agreement and called it a “diplomatic victory” for Turkey even though Ankara’s demand that the Gaza blockade would be removed was not met: “We reached an agreement for the normalization of relations with Israel.”
