Gas Masks: Israelis rushed last week to get their government-issued gas masks in preparation for possible retaliation from a strike on Syria. In 1990, under increasing threats from Iraq, the IDF debated the meritsof giving out gas masks, for fear that doing so too early would deteriorate the quality of the masks. In 1993, Israelis needed gas masks from the fallout of Scud missile attacks by Iraq. In 2008, in preparation for possibleattacks by Iran or Syria, Israel upgraded the nation’s gas masks.
