Four rockets were fired toward Israel from southern Lebanon on Thursday afternoon, setting off air raid sirens in the Nahariya and Akko areas. One rocket was intercepted by the Iron Dome missile defense system between Akko and Nahariya, two fell in small communities near Akko. There was damage to some buildings but no injuries. The army believes that global jihad operatives, and not Hezbollah, are behind the attacks. IDF spokesman brigade general Yoav Mordechai told channel 2 news that the IDF was regarding this as a one-time incident. There was no change in regulations or orders from the home front command.
The Lebanese President Michel Suleiman slammed the rocket attack against Israel, calling it a violation of UN resolution 1701, and claiming that the incident hurts Lebanon’s sovereignty.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responded to Thursday’s rocket attack from Lebanon by saying Israel was working on all fronts – both with defensive and active preventive measures – to protect Israeli citizens. We are acting responsibly he said in a statement.. Anyone who attacks us, or tries to attack us, should know that we will get him.”
Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas told channel 2 news that he was not optimistic regarding the current peace negotiations but it was the only chance. He also added that as far as the Palestinians demands they had no claims over cities in Israel such as Jaffa Akko or Tzfat. Abbas hosted Meretz members of Knesset in Ramallah.
