Committees
Merkel. German chancellor Angela Merkel will address MEPs in a special meeting to discuss the future of Europe and efforts to solve the current financial and economic crisis. Before, the chancellor will have a meeting with EP President Martin Schulz. (Wednesday pm)
European Globalisation Adjustment Fund 2014-2020. MEPs in the Employment Committee will vote a proposal to continue the EGF aimed at providing support for workers made redundant as a result of globalization for the next long-term budget period. MEPs propose not only to continue but also to extend the scope of the EGF to include temporary contract as well as the self-employed, such as farmers.(Tuesday)
Airport package. The transport committee will vote on three pieces of airport legislation regarding noise, ground handling and slots to increase efficiency, capacity and competitiveness. (Tuesday)
Rules to deal with banks in trouble. Rules on how to deal with banks in trouble will be presented to the economic and monetary affairs committee on Tuesday by rapporteur Gunnar Hökmark (EPP, SV). The EP has been calling for such legislation for over two years. (Debate on Tuesday)
Fundamental rights. Civil liberties MEPs will vote a draft resolution on the situation of fundamental rights in the EU in 2010-2011. (Tuesday)
LUX cinema prize. The Culture Committee will launch the EP prize for cinema, with a shortlist of three films to be considered for this year’s award, the Hungarian film „Just the Wind”, the Italian „Shun Li and the Poet” and the Portuguese „Taboo”. (Monday)
President’s diary. EP President Martin Schulz will meet the wives of Belarusian political prisoners Alex Bialatski and Mikola Statkevich (Wednesday) and pay a visit to Italy, meeting among others Italian President Giorgio Napolitano. (Thursday)
MFF journalists seminar. The EP press service is organizing a seminar for journalists with rapporteurs and political groups budget spokespersons on the Multi-annual Financial Framework, the EU long-term budget 2014-2020. (Wednesday)
