January 16th, 2003 IDF Continues to Provide Humanitarian Aid To Palestinians


With ongoing IDF activity in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, the IDF also continues to ensure humanitarian aid to the Palestinian population not involved in acts of terrorrism. The following is a summary of humanitarian aid provided (Figures from 5 Jan. 2003) – Coordination of the entry to Kalkiliya by an Israeli Arab family from East Jerusalem in order for them to attend their son’s wedding. – Coordination of the entry of packages containing ration cards sent by an International Aid Organization to the residents of Azoun In Gaza: – Coordination of passage for agricultural produce from the Muassi to Khan Yunis. – Coordination of passage for three trucks of food from Khan Yunis to the Muassi – Coordination of passage for an UNWRA team to aid in the disposal of rubbish in Muassi In Kalkiliya, Tayyibe, Bitounia, Nablus and Jericho, activities continued as usual. In Bethlehem: Coordination of passage for humanitarian goods. The following is a summary of humanitarian aid provided to the Palestinian population (Figures from 6 Jan. 2003) – Coordination of passage for three trucks of building materials from UNWRA to Tul Karem to enable the continuation of building the hospital in Kalkiliya. – Enabled the distribution of ration cards by the Red Cross in Salfit. – In the Gaza Strip coordination of passage for agricultural produce from the Muassi to Khan Yunis was enabled. – Coordination of passage for food trucks from Khan Yunis to the Muassi. – Enabling passage of a rubbish truck to clear away the rubbish in the Muassi area. – ABB workers were enabled to pass from Ben-Gurion Airport in Israel to the Gaza Strip. – In Kalkiliya, Tayyibe, Bitounia, Nablus and Jericho, activities continued as usual. Health and Medical Aid for Palestinians: The transfer of 28 Palestinian patients to hospital was coordinated in the West Bank. The transfer of 284 Palestinian patients by ambulance was coordinated throughout the West Bank. Twelve patients were transferred to hospital in the Gaza Strip, among them 4 Palestinian patients who were transferred to Israel for medical treatment.
