Budapest: A street is again renamed after an anti-Semite

The Federation of Jewish Communities in Hungary is shocked of being noticed that on the 75th anniversary of the 1st anti-Jewish law that came into effect, the self-government of Budapest lead by lord mayor Istvan Tarlos is renaming a 2nd district street after Miklos Horthy’s favorite author, the openly anti-Semitic Cecile Tormay whose many thoughts were standards for anti-Semitic leading figures of the Hungarian political life.

The Federation of Jewish Communities in Hungary is calling upon Istvan Tarlos to revoke his decision in accordance with public statements of the Hungarian Government that were issued by Bence Retvari during the Global Forum for Combating Antisemitism in Jerusalem.

“In the recent 3 years the Government of Hungary has always stepped up and has done numerous arrangements in order to hinder the gather-around and confine the anti-Semitic manifestations” – told the parliamentary state secretary of the Ministry for Public Administration and Justice. Based upon these thoughts we ask the lord mayor: don’t name a public place after a person whose life and work is questioning the commitment of the Hungarian government on fight against anti-Semitism.
