Summary of Editorials from the Izraeli Hebrew Press
Yediot Aharonot discusses the upcoming elections. The author
asserts that „In order to decide wisely and to do what is right in the years to come, we must choose a suitable prime minister, government and coalition now. In contrast to the outward impression, there is no time. The Middle East may be burning, but through the flames it is possible to see the window of opportunity.”
Ma’ariv remarks that „The visit of the Emir of Qatar, the first visit by a head of state to Gaza under the Hamas regime, has no small political ramifications – even besides the economic aspect – for both Israel and the Palestinian Authority.” The author says that „The visit is perceived as a gift to Hamas for breaking with Iran and with Syria and the organization is exploiting it for a conscious achievement against Israel.”
Yisrael Hayom advises that „Anyone intending to abstain from voting on Election Day and not realize his democratic right must be reminded that by so doing he is neutralizing the power that is embodied in the voting public and harming the very soul of Israel’s democracy. If all of the sectors which constitute the social mosaic would realize the full electoral power that they embody, the results would not be certain and known in advance.”Ma’ariv remarks that „The visit of the Emir of Qatar, the first visit by a head of state to Gaza under the Hamas regime, has no small political ramifications – even besides the economic aspect – for both Israel and the Palestinian Authority.” The author says that „The visit is perceived as a gift to Hamas for breaking with Iran and with Syria and the organization is exploiting it for a conscious achievement against Israel.”
Haaretz states that “The basic notion that every woman has the right to make decisions about her own body, without outside interference, is not obvious to the Israel of 2012,” and declares: “The anti-abortion organization Efrat combines racism, nationalism and chauvinism, with the result that a woman’s womb is expropriated from her and she becomes a tool in the demographic war over Israel’s future.”

The Jerusalem Post points out that “While 44% of Jews leave high school meeting the minimum academic requirements needed to go on to higher education, only 22% of Arab students do,” and calls on the government to improve the level of education in the Arab sector. The editor states that “improving elementary school education can have a crucial impact on the academic destinies of thousands of children,” and adds: “That’s where government efforts should be focused.”
