Azerbajdzsán cáfolja, hogy segítené Izraelt egy Irán elleni támadásban Baku will not facilitate Israel to attack Iran, says Azeri envoy

ISLAMABAD: Azerbaijan will not allow Israel or any other country to use its airspace or ground facilities for undertaking attack on Iran or any other country. This has been stated by ambassador Azerbaijan in Pakistan Dr. Dashgin Shikrov in an exclusive chat with The News in his country’s mission here on Monday. The ambassador dispelled forcefully reports emanating from the western media about his country’s readiness for providing Israel ground facilities for attacking Iran’s nuclear installations. “One should not think of it since a large number of Iranian population is Azeri and further more Azerbaijan has been following the policy of non-interference in the affairs of other countries. President Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has been widely respected across the world for his policies. Azerbaijan is member of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) since nobody should have doubt in mind that it will permit to use its territory for committing aggression against another member country of the organization,” the ambassador said.

Dr. Dashgin Shikrov recalled that Azerbaijan had been supporting the independent state of Palestine with Jerusalem, its capital. A country that has this strong commitment for the cause of Palestine could not side with an aggression against any of its neighbours. He reminded that Azerbaijan’s twenty percent soil has been occupied by Armenia and it is a historic fact that another friendly country offered Azerbaijan to help it through physical involvement for vacating the occupied areas but the government in Baku didn’t accept the generous offer because it could pave the way for use of the land and routes of Azerbaijan. “We are struggling at our own and we will get it vacated through our own efforts. Azerbaijan is thankful to Pakistan for its consistent support in the matter,” the Azeri envoy said.

Ambassador Dr. Dashgin Shakrov revealed that president of Pakistan is visiting Azerbaijan towards the end of next week where he will be attending the head of the states of Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO) meeting. The meeting will provide opportunity to the member countries to enhance their mutual trade and economic cooperation. The ECO member countries are not trading with each other to their full potential. They can take remarkable benefit from their bilateral cooperation and the ECO forum could act as useful conduit for that. He is hopeful that the ECO summit will greatly help in achieving the objective.
