Following the Hizbullah attack, the Israeli Air Force targeted and destroyed a Hizbullah outpost in the western sector of southern Lebanon, from which a canon is used to fire on northern Israel. The pilots reported accurate hits.
Hizbullah continues to target Israeli towns and cities, endangering the citizens of the State of Israel, under the guise of anti-aircraft fire. On August 10, 2003 in the northern town of Shlomi, an Israeli teenager was killed by such fire and four other civilians were wounded, one moderately. In previous similar incidents three civilians were wounded.
Since the Israeli pullout from southern Lebanon in May 2000, 6 Israeli civilians and 11 IDF soldiers were killed in Hizbullah attacks.
The State of Israel is determined not to allow attacks from Lebanese territory and to hold the governments of Lebanon and Syria responsible for these actions. The IDF will take every necessary step to protect its citizens from any group or individual that carries out terrorist attacks against the State of Israel. (BPI information)
