Click here to watch: 4 Killed, at Least 6 Wounded After Hamas Mortar fire on Eshkol
At least four people were killed, while at least six others were wounded, some seriously and criticially, by mortar fire on Eshkol near the Gaza border early Monday evening. Because this was a mortar and not a rocket, there was no Code Red siren. Meanwhile, the rocket alert siren was sounded in Zikhron Ya’akov, Binyamina, Hadera, Caesarea, other cities in northern Israel at around 7:11pm. The wounded were taken to Soroka Medical Center in Be’er Sheba and to the Sheba Medical Center in Tel HaShomer. Shortly afterwards, three rockets hit open areas in Eshkol, and later the Iron Dome intercepted three rockets over Ashdod.
Five terrorists infiltrate into Israel through a cross-border tunnel in southern Israel, Channel 2 reports. Israeli troops locate the gunmen and kill them. Sweeps of the area to ensure no other terrorists successfully infiltrated are ongoing. This is the sixth attempt by Hamas to send terrorists into Israel through the tunnels this month.
The IDF is currently striking a row of buildings overlooking Gaza’s Jabaliya area — buildings known as the “officers’ homes” — which had not previously been hit. If the IDF is planning to step up its operations in Jabaliya, controlling this area would be important, Channel 2 reports.
