SUMMARY OF EDITORIALS FROM THE HEBREW PRESS
Both papers comment on various issues related to the war in the north,
including yesterday’s fighting in Bint Jbeil:
Yediot Ahronot says that, „Reality has cast expectations in their true
light.” The editors call for unity and urge that more attention be paid
to efforts to find a diplomatic solution.
Yediot Ahronot, in its second editorial, says that the Israeli and
Lebanese governments have a clear set of common interests and calls on
Jerusalem to try to reach a package deal with Beirut that would ensure,
„a strong Lebanese Government and a weak Hizbullah.” The editors
criticize Prime Minister Ehud Olmert’s remarks to the effect that the
home front will determine the pace of events as, „nonsense.”
Yediot Ahronot, in its third editorial, believes that both the
Government and Hizbullah are fighting over honor and commends Egyptian
President Hosni Mubarak’s statement that, „The time of foreign
adventures is over.”
Hatzofeh notes that the Golani Brigade unit that was involved in
yesterday’s deadly clash in Bint Jbeil had previously served in the
former Gush Katif.
