Israel Defense Forces troops on Tuesday evening shot dead a Palestinian teenager near the West Bank town of Nablus and a wanted Islamic Jihad militant south of Jenin. The youth, who was killed on the slopes of Mount Eival when IDF troops began shooting a cluster of houses in the area, was later identified as Muhammad Abu Salha, aged 16. Four other Palestinians were wounded in the incident, including a 10-year-old who sustained moderately chest wounds. According to Palestinian sources, IDF troops opened fire from the top of the mountain toward the buildings, which included a club run by the Nablus municipality, where the youths were located at the time of the shooting. The IDF said its troops had opened fire on Palestinians suspected of planning to plant an explosive to ambush troops on a road leading to a nearby settlement. The cause of the blast was not immediately clear. Dr. Ghassan Hamdan, a Palestinian doctor who arrived at the scene said he saw four people wounded, including one man who was lying on the street. Hamdan said that when he attempted to reach the wounded, IDF troops fired in his direction. Palestinian witnesses said one man was arrested. IDF officials confirmed troops were operaring in the Nablus region. Officer wounded by roadside bomb An IDF officer was lightly wounded overnight Tuesday after an explosive device went off next to his jeep in the West Bank city of Nablus. He was evacuated to hospital for treatment. The officer was participating in a chase after wanted militants in Nablus when soldiers came under fire. The soldiers returned fire and reported wounding two militants. A statement released by the Al Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades, the Fatah militant wing and the Al Quds Brigades, the Islamic Jihad military wing took shared responsibility for deonating the explosive device. „The incident is part of the natural resistance to Zionist occupation,” the statement said. IDF troops arrested twenty wanted militants in Nablus, Ramallah and Hebron before dawn on Tuesday.
