The health situation of Rabbi Ovadia Yossef continues to be very difficult and so far, there are no signs of improvement. This was the conclusion reached by doctors following assessments made in the Hadassah hospital at Ein Kerem in Jerusalem, even though it was published last night that his situation had gotten better. The rabbi is currently breathing via a respirator.
Prof. Dan Gilon, who takes care of Rabbi Ovadia Yossef, told Channel 2’s Internet edition: “After one night of being in stable condition, a reassessment was conducted regarding the health condition of the rabbi. This morning, there were minor changes in the assessment, because we noticed that the treatment strengthened his blood pressure and this wasn’t a good sign.”
According to Prof. Gilon, the rabbi suffers from difficult kidney and breathing problems. “He also has significant heart problems and in light of this, we assessed his difficult situation. The treatment given to him will be in full accordance with all of the various options that are permitted to us. We hope that his situation will improve. The present situation does not appear positive.”
The Shas chairman, however, has a more positive outlook regarding Rabbi Ovadia Yossef’s health condition. Shas chairman Aryeh Deri, who was in the rabbi’s hospital room, told Channel 2 News internet edition that “the rabbi’s condition is stable and the night passed successfully according to health examinations. All of the signs are stable and good.” Deri said that consultation with a large team of doctors is presently being arranged, who are set to decide how to proceed in the upcoming hours. “The doctors encourage us and tell us not to despair.”
Deri called upon all of the “supporters, lovers, and fans of the rabbi not to despair,” for “this is the time to pray that his situation will be reversed and there is a good chance that the rabbi will overcome this. Every one needs to pray; each person in his or her own way.” One of the children of Rabbi Ovadia Yossef, Rabbi David Yossef, came to the hospital in order to examine his father’s condition.
