The Jerusalem municipality arts, community and sports administration, and B.Yair have joined forces as part of the Hanukkah events in Jerusalem to build the world’s largest Hanukkah candle. The candle, built from 5,000 individual candles (3.5 tons of wax), in 8 different colors, will be placed at the „Pisga” mall, in Pisgat- Ze’ev neighborhood. It will be 8.5 meters high and 85 cm. wide. The world’s largest candle, which will be entered in the „Guinness Book of World Records” will be lit on Sunday, 01/01/06 in a festive ceremony. The individual candels may be purchased at the mall for 5NIS each, and all proceeds will be donated to „Education for the Blind House” in Kiryat-Moshe. The candles will be placed one on top of the other using a special lift. As part of the Hanukkah events around Jerusalem, the municipality will light the city in a variety of candles and menorahs, with hope that Jerusalem, „light of the universe” will shed its light on all of Israel.
