Christian groups honored for participation in initiative to donate and distribute bags of school supplies to 16,000 needy Israeli children The Knesset Christian Allies Caucus (KCAC) and the World Jewish Congress gathered in Jerusalem to honor their Christian allies at an event held at the Inbal Hotel last night. Many Israeli political figures were in attendance, among them MK Dr. Yuri Shtern (National Union) and MK Yair Peretz (Shas), co-Chairmen of the KCAC, MK Ran Cohen (Meretz), MK Eliezer Sandberg (Shinui), MK Benyamin Elon (National Union), Gila Finklestein (Mafdal) and MK Chemi Doron (Shinui). Additionally, a number of leaders in the Christian Evangelical movement, among them Reverend Malcolm Hedding, Executive Director of the International Christian Embassy Jerusalem and Rebecca Brimmer, the CEO of Bridges For Peace, spoke at the event. “Real projects that have impacted the likes of thousands of Israelis have been successfully accomplished and we look forward to a growing relationship with positive consequences for the people of Israel,” said Malcolm Hedding, Executive Director of the International Christian Embassy Jerusalem. The Christian Allies Caucus worked closely with the World Jewish Congress on this event to highlight the importance of growing Jewish-Christian relations and dialogue. Since the inception of the caucus, there has been a significant rise in joint Jewish-Christian cooperation worldwide. “The World Jewish Congress sees the Christian community worldwide as natural Allies in our struggle against anti-Semitism and hatred and in favor of justice and freedom,” said Bobby Brown, Executive Director of the World Jewish Congress. An award was given to those organizations that participated in a joint project that took place last year in which the KCAC joined together with a number of Christian organizations to donate and distribute 16,000 school bags with supplies to needy Israeli first-graders. The Christian groups that contributed to the joint project included Bridges for Peace, Christian Friends of Israel, the East Gate Foundation, Christian Friends of Israeli Communities and the Christian Embassy International Jerusalem. They were all honored at the event. “We have achieved so much over the last year but none of this could have been achieved without our Christian Allies here in Israel. Through your innovation, time and generosity we have been able to be a light unto others, from Jerusalem,” said Josh Reinstein, director of the KCAC. BPI-info
