Canada’s Prime Minister

 

 

·          Justin Trudeau will address the full Parliament on Thursday at 11.00. It is the first-ever visit by a Canadian Prime Minister to the European Parliament.

CETA final vote

·          Parliament will vote on the EU-Canada Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) on Wednesday, after a morning debate on the landmark deal, which aims to boost goods and services trade and investment flows. Lead MEPs will hold a joint press conference with Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmström after the vote, at 14.00.

Combatting terrorism

·          MEPs will vote on a new counter-terrorism law, which will add to the EU list of terrorism crimes acts such as “foreign fighters” travelling to conflict zones to join terrorist groups and returning to the EU, and “lone wolves” preparing attacks. The new law will also provide for better protection and help for victims of terrorist attacks.

Cutting carbon emissions

·          MEPs will discuss how to curb greenhouse gas emissions further by means of the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS) and vote on a mandate for lead MEPs to start negotiations with member states.

Robotics

·          The EU needs common rules for the fast-evolving field of robotics, say MEPs in a legislative resolution to be put to vote on Thursday. MEPs want EU ethical standards and rules to establish liability for accidents, particularly those involving driverless cars. A press conference is scheduled before Wednesday’s debate.

Greece Demonstration of robotics
·         The MEPs will discuss the state of Greece’s bailout. This infoclip illustrates the economic recession and poverty in Greece. ·          Last Wednesday, several companies proposed demonstrations of robots and artificial intelligence on the premises of the EP.

CETA Lisbon Treaty
·         On the 30th October 2016, EU and Canada signed the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) & Strategic Partnership Agreement (SPA). ·         On Tuesday MEPs will debate the functioning of the EU, building on the potential of the Lisbon Treaty.
