Segítsünk, vagy még többen jönnek! – Hölvényi György
„Elsősorban az elvándorlás okait kell megszüntetni, ám emberiességi szempontoktól vezérelve támogatnunk kell a lakóhelyüket elhagyni kényszerülőket is” – hívta fel a figyelmet Hölvényi György EP-képviselő (Fidesz-KDNP) az Európai Parlament plenáris ülésén.
Az Afrikai Szükséghelyzeti Alapról tartott vita során Hölvényi György kifejtette: a tömeges migráció újfajta humanitárius és biztonsági kihívással szembesíti Európát.
Átlátható stratégiára van szükség, melynek keretében a támogatások nem merülhetnek ki az elvándorlás megakadályozásában. Ha meg akarjuk őrizni európai hagyományainkat és értékeinket, szülőföldjükön kell védelmet biztosítanunk a bajban lévőknek.
A néppárti képviselő hangsúlyozta: „az Európai Uniónak együtt kell működnie a vallási szervezetekkel a hatékonyabb segítségnyújtás érdekében. Hiba lenne kihagyni a döntéshozatalból a jelentős helyismerettel rendelkező vallási vezetőket”.
Hölvényi György emlékeztetett a vallási kisebbségek nehéz helyzetére, hiszen számos esetben ebben keresendő az elvándorlás legfőbb oka. Felszólalásában kiemelte a folyamatos üldöztetést elszenvedő közel-keleti keresztények sorsát.
Végül nyomatékosította: mindent meg kell tennünk a bajba jutottak megsegítése érdekében, ellenkező esetben még nagyobb tömegek vándorolnak be Európába.

Thank you Mr. President, dear colleagues,
Europe has always been a leading donor for the people in need. But today there is more at stake in terms of aid than before. Mass migration creates a new humanitarian and security situation for Europe.
Our primary task is to lend a hand in crisis areas. The EU Trust Fund aims at preventing displacement, but we have to go further. We need a clear strategy on protecting vulnerable communities in their homeland. Without a common European strategy, we can not overcome the challenges of irregular migration.
If we look at Africa, displacement is often driven by religious hatred. Europe is responsible for these people whose basic rights are in danger.
Aid activities must therefore focus on the protection of religious minorities too. Christianity and other minor religions are being eliminated by extremists in Africa.
We need to join forces in relief activities. The EU Trust Fund that we discuss today is very much promoting this idea.
Let me make a strong reference here. EU actions will be more effective, if we bring religious organisations on board as well. They manage well-functioning local relief networks. The efficiency of churches and faith-based bodies often exceeds the one of public aid. It would be a failure to ignore local experience, as they have a significant impact on creating social stability.
Without this cooperation, negative impacts will increase in the future. Inefficient relief actions on the spot would result in extending displacement and growing migration flows. At the end, this would risk European security, too.
We need a new level of comprehensive support in this situation. We help them or they show up in Europe. The reasons of illegal migration have to be handled through improvement of security, and of economic development to stop the displacement.
