SUMMARY OF EDITORIALS FROM THE HEBREW PRESS

Yediot Ahronot offers a few axioms regarding Israeli election campaigns. The editors assert that, “Most of the public tends to support the party in power,” but add that Prime Minister Sharon’s party is perceived as such. The paper believes that, “He who takes the center, wins,” and suggests that the Prime Minister’s party occupies the middle ground between Labor and the rump Likud. The editors aver that, “No Israeli election has ever been decided on socio-economic issues,” but caution that this may not hold completely in the future. Hatzofeh refers to recent UN statistics which show that approximately six million children die of hunger around the world every year and calls for Israel to raise its voice in protest.
